I found this today while I was going through some old messages that the two of us shared. I know that you had mentioned receiving a couple responses claiming that you are a partisan and if it were Al Gore in the Presidency and not G.W. Bush that you would not be so gung-ho to blast Iraq into a parking lot. I think this illustrates your never ending support for our troops and our military actions no matter who our Commander in Chief is.

Never let is be said that I do not support our military and our President during military actions. We now have 2 instances that are most prevalent under President Clinton; Kosovo and his conveniently timed missile firing into Iraq. We also have minor incidents such as Haiti which all were relatively under the radar.

I believe that for the most part political bickerings must be put on the back burner until after conflict is resolved. And only once resolved can we then determine how history will portray events undertaken. Each time the President has flexed the military power of this nation I have never said, nor will say, that such action is wrong unless it is ultimately clear that the action is taken without any regard for our authority. Something along the lines of invading Aruba just so we can get some nice beach front property would fall in that category. And looking upon events such as Kosovo and Iraq I can not fault Clinton for his actions. I may not agree with what I see as his higher motivation for these actions (i.e. convenient distractions from other issues), but I believe that the actions are ultimately correct and justified.

Even bad people can do the right things, albeit for the wrong reasons. That combined with my personal belief that often times partisan dissent and fractures can cause more dangers than to stand united with those that you do not agree with politically I think will ultimately show truth. Unity for the correct actions but still holding different ideals as to why something must be done is a virtue that many will never learn. Many will shun the proper actions simply based upon partisan dissent even when they know it is right.

I know the inference that you will draw upon those words. And that is that President Clinton is a "bad" person. I do believe that and will stand by it until shown otherwise. And I believe that history will ultimately bare such a truth once the inevitable rewrite of his "legacy" begins post presidency. He will probably have help from Mr. Peanut on this. But, as I have previously said, that does not preclude him from being the blind squirrel finding a nut every so often.

This is why you have not heard me protest either action in Iraq or in Kosovo by our President. I believe the acts are justified under the concept of "just war". I just believe that they are for different reasons than our President.
