Doing Nothing Might Sometimes be the Responsible Thing To Do!
By: Lance Winslow
Often we find infighting between the Liberals and the Conservatives and everyone picks sides and then they start in with all the sound and fury creating controversy and chaos in the mass media. The hysteria gets out of hand and a shouting match begins. Is all this really necessary? Sometimes the things that we fight over are incidental or really unimportant.
In my opinion, we need to stop fighting straw men and sit back from the situation, because doing nothing at all about a situation sometimes might be the more responsible thing to do and be the fairest for all concerned. Take Global Warming for instance; What if it is right? What if it is not? That is to say what if Global Warming is not caused by mankind in mission of CO2 pollution?
What if we tear down our industrial capability and our power and electricity infrastructure only to find out later that CO2 in the atmosphere had nothing to do with global warming at all? Then our civilization would be weakened and if the climate change continued further, then we will have made ourselves even more vulnerable in the future. This is the theory of unintended consequences and if you do not know the exact questions to ask or have the right information you cannot get the right solution or proper answer.
Thus, sometimes the smartest thing to do is to do nothing at all and allow cooler heads to prevail.
