Hispanic group aims to stop ‘wave of hate’
By: Carolyn Hileman
“MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — The nation’s largest Hispanic advocacy group says it must come up with a strategy to combat “a wave of hate” its leaders say came from talk radio’s efforts to sink the Senate’s immigration bill. “That had an extraordinary impact in the Senate, and as a nation, I don’t think we should be comfortable with the fact that the United States Senate responded to what was largely a wave of hate,” Cecilia Munoz, the National Council of La Raza’s senior vice president for research, advocacy and legislation, told The Washington Times after meeting with NCLR affiliates to talk about a new strategy. Stung by the collapse of the immigration bill in the Senate last month, NCLR leaders and members at the group’s annual convention in Miami Beach, which began yesterday, say they will have to start a campaign to register and mobilize voters, to warn against crossing the line in the debate and to force lawmakers to take a clear stand on what they are willing to tolerate.â€
Now I may be wrong here, but I don’t think I am but I think they are talking about us… Imagine that they are going to combat us and our so-called wave of hate. Well now, I am no expert on hate by far but I would estimate if we hated these people there would be no Hispanic business standing today and there would have been none of those so-called peaceful marches either. Yeah we made a few hundred thousand phone calls and we will do it again because those lawmakers happen to work for us, and it is we the voters of America, who will tell them just exactly what they will tolerate. Now I may be wrong but I really do not think any of our people threatened the economy of a country they claimed to love because they didn’t get forgiven for their offences. It was not us who stood in the streets every time they had a march calling out cuss words and giving the finger and they call us racist and virile.
Now I don’t know about you but I didn’t need talk radio to tell me that our leaders planned to sell us out, I didn’t need talk radio to dial my phone and type my emails I did that myself. You will have to excuse me but when a bunch of people who did not even have the decency to come into my country the legal way wish to tell me how to behave, whom I may listen to and what they will tolerate, I think they need a little dose of reality. They need to know what we will tolerate and they need to know that we will not tolerate their behavior at our rallies; we will not tolerate their loud obnoxious swearing when our pledge is being spoken or our National Anthem is being sung. We have been very careful not to overstep any bounds, we have been very careful not to call them names; we have been peaceful, respectful and above all nonviolent. It was not us who stopped people from marching on a park they had a legal permit to march in, it was not us that promised violence that day, no our side sang Glory, Glory Halleluiah, His Truth is marching on, they may not have been able to march in that park because the LAPD was afraid of the other side causing a riot but the truth did a lot of marching that day, the truth came out that this did have to do with color and those of us who are white and black were the wrong color to be marching in that park.
We will not rise up in violence against these people unless they rise up against us first, but we will call our senators and we will write them and we will email them and they will listen because we have a weapon they don’t have and that is our vote and Heaven help the senator or congressman who does not know what selling out his country will get him or her. If November 2008 doesn’t come soon enough for us we will write in Jeff Sessions as our presidential candidate during the primaries just to shake things up a bit because this man was and still is a hero to the American people and he will stand firm against those who think it is their right to walk into our country and stand in our streets and demand we make them legal. If any hate needs to be stopped it is their hate for a country they claim to love, it is their hate for the values that we live by and the flag that we wave. So yes, I think it is time to stop the wave of hate, and I think they can start at their own front door.
