The Roar of the Fans
By: Patti Bankson
My parents were Democrats. I grew up hearing them say FDR was the greatest thing since sliced bread, margarine and Cadillacs. When I was old enough to vote, I called myself a Democrat and voted Democrat, until I realized that I didn’t believe what Democrats believe. So I’m no longer a Democrat. I no longer support the Democrat plank. Especially that so-called pro-choice one where an unborn baby (4.5 months old or more) has no choice when his/her own mother chooses to end his/her life by allowing his/her brains to be sucked out. Nice..
Anyway… since the election even more of my Liberal / Progressive “fans†are telling me that they rrrrrreally don’t like the way I see things. That’s Okay. This is still America and we don’t have to have the same opinions, right? I’m still free to think my opinion is the right one, right? I mean, if I didn’t believe that then I really don’t have an opinion, do I? Well… not according to my “fansâ€. Apparently the Change they believe in is: No more expressing your opinion about Barack Obama unless you believe he truly is THE answer to all our woes, and a savior. I really have a problem with that last one… sorry, folks… even if I were (still) a Democrat, I’d be saying that there’s only one Savior, and it ain’t Barack Obama.
One “fan†is unhappy because I had the audacity to congratulate Obama on his win, then, express concern about his Socialist / Marxist leanings. He questioned whether I even knew the meaning of the terms. Yes. Do you? Just in case: Socialism: 1) Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy. 2) The stage in Marxist-Leninist theory intermediate between capitalism and communism, in which collective ownership of the economy under the dictatorship of the proletariat has not yet been successfully achieved. 3) A political theory advocating state ownership of industry 4) an economic system based on state ownership of capital. (The opposite of capitalism). This “fan†thinks a business having the right to decide how and where they do business is Unpatriotic and Un-American. (See Socialism defined above.) I think when he called me “Schizo†he was referring to the “fan†who wrote that my columns were so offensive she quit reading them; even threw away the paper. But! She said… “When it arrived today, I couldn’t wait to see what you had to write.†Just in case you’re reading this before tossing the paper, it’s “Boo Hooâ€, not “Boo Hoâ€. So much for that college education.
Listen up, “fans  if it’s O.K. for “y’all†to call George Bush stupid and Hitler, then it’s O.K. for me to point out Barack Obama’s Socialist leanings. I know he’s not alone… that both Democrats and R.I.N.O.s have been taking us in that direction for a long time. But that doesn’t mean it’s right or good for this country. It just means that we’ve become more willing to sit back and let it happen… to let others tell us when to speak up and when to shut up.
