Rethinking the Fairness Doctrine!
By: J.J. Jackson
At first blush, the Fairness Doctrine being floated by liberals in Congress and by their allies in the Mainstream Media sounds unfair at best, unconstitutional and un-American at worst.
However, a real Fairness Doctrine might actually help if it included all media, television, newspapers, and radio, and if:
*When hiring reporters, editors, commentators, anchors, and other news staff, mainstream media venues were required to hire the exact same number of conservatives as liberals;
*For every Saturday Night Light skit in which Tina Fey ridicules Governor Sarah Palin, SNL is required to run a skit of equal length, prominence, and bite to spoof Nancy Pelosi;
*In order to balance the content of Keith Olbermann’s “Count Down,” MSNBC should broadcast a prime-time show, of equal length, hosted by Pat Buchanan, titled, “Meltdown” to chronicle the ongoing foibles of the Obama adminsitration, including a daily count of the number of real jobs created by Obama’s trillion dollar stimulus baby;
*Spanish-language broadcasts with pro-amnesty and open borders advocates should include an equal number of commentaries, in both Spanish and English, by those opposed to illegal immigration and in favor of immediate deportation of illegal aliens;
*For every column in which a New York Times columnist confesses to having fantasies about sex with President Obama, the Times should run a current Ann Coulter column, of equal length, using the same sized font, on the same page;
*To offset the “thrill running up and down my leg” of Chris Matthews, MSNBC should give equal time and prominence to a call-in show co-hosted by Dr. Laura Schlessinger and Thomas S. Monson, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
*PBS should follow the “Jim Lehrer News Hour” with a live segment of “The Savage Nation;”
* To counter 60 Minutes featuring Mike Wallace, CBS should run a show of equal time hosted by Rush Limbaugh;
* In order to avoid being excessively “one way,” ABC should fire two liberals from “The View” and replace them with Bay Buchanan and Phyllis Schlafly; and
* The Weather Channel should replace half of its global warming biased staff with skeptics who believe that global warming is liberal pap, unsubstantiated by real science, and
If administered fairly, the fairness doctrine could help to dislodge the liberal bias pervasive in newspapers, television, films, and radio.
In which case, Bring it on!
