They Fiddle… We Burn

By: Patti Bankson

Legend says that in A.D. 64 Roman Emperor Nero fiddled as he watched Rome burn. As titillating as that story may be, there’s no historical evidence to back up it up. However, if any of that story could be true, it’s not the part about the fiddle. Nero did play a lyre, an early harp-like stringed instrument, but the fiddle, or violin, hadn’t been invented yet. Apparently, though, the story was accepted as truth because that kind of behavior was expected of Nero, who considered himself a talented musician, and was mentally unstable. But! Reportedly, Nero was 80 kilometers (50 miles) away from Rome when the fire started. But #2! It was suspected that he was deliberately away from Rome because he’d instigated the fire so he could rebuild the city.

I’m sure Roman citizens’ jaws dropped as they watched their country… their lives as they knew them… go up in smoke, just as hundreds of thousands of American jaws are dropping as our own country and lives go up in smoke… while Obama and Congress fiddle with every part of our lives. Like Nero, they seem to consider themselves talented… beyond reality. As for mental instability, it doesn’t take a psychiatrist to recognize insanity when you see it. And, if what’s happening in D.C. isn’t insanity, I don’t know what else you’d call it.

Americans need jobs. Does this president know that? He says he does when talking to union leaders, community organizers, and the like… he even says he’s creating jobs. And he is… government jobs. Czar jobs. That’s all fine and dandy, I guess, but what’s the plan here? Is everyone in the U.S. going to be employed by the government? Is that doable? If we’re all working for the government and being taxed, we won’t get paid for our work because all the taxes will be needed to pay for running the government. If you don’t follow that, let me remind you that financial experts estimate that, based solely on taxing “the wealthy” at 100%, if the government keeps spending like it is, there won’t be enough money being paid in taxes to cover the government spending. So, where will they turn after that? Why, to the not so wealthy… the so called middle class. Then after the middle class has been sucked dry, they’ll be coming after whoever is left. They won’t be able to get money from the unemployed, those living at the poverty level or those on welfare, of course, so what do they do then? Exactly what they’re talking about doing now with the health care… cut back here, cut back there, drop this program, drop that program, etc., etc. That means that every government program people are relying on will disappear or everything you make… no matter who you work for…. will be confiscated through one tax or another. Or a Chinese Repo man will show up to repossess our country. Fetching options, eh?

We’re all familiar with Albert Einstein’s definition of Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. Great wisdom, and certainly applicable to our current situation. But, here’s more Einstein wisdom that’s even more applicable: “Sometimes one pays most for the things one gets for nothing.”
