Save the Golden Egg Goose
By: Brooks A. Mick
The fairy tale about the goose that laid the golden eggs was really a parable about the private enterprise system versus liberalism as it is currently constituted–which is, to be plain, Marxist-Leninist. With the election of the Democrats in 2006 to the congress and the election in 2008 of Obama to the White House, the Marxist-Leninists had all they needed to hijack the goose and take it back to Washington for experimentation.
The private enterprise capitalist goose, as you know, feeds on capital. It feeds on money in all its forms. People pay for goods and services and the goose feeds on that money and grows and creates golden eggs–profits. The liberal Democrats know, somewhere deep inside, that they need the golden eggs to finance their various social welfare schemes. They either don’t think the goose needs to be fed, however, or they believe in magic, that the goose can grow and prosper and produce profits without being fed any capital.
They take capital out of the private sector in the form of taxes and fines and fees and levies and any other way they can think of. And they take capital out of the system by deficit financing and borrowing. The goose, if he doesn’t have enough money from sales of goods at any given moment, can borrow some capital and grow and become strong and then produce golden eggs again. But if the government has sucked up all the capital by its borrowing, there isn’t enough left for the goose or it is too costly.
What does the liberal government do with its capital? Instead of building products and providing needed services that people will pay for, it uses the capital to feed bureaucratic gerbils running madly on treadmills in government offices all over Washington and the rest of the country for one thing. For another, it injects political steroids into the unionized left wing of the goose, increasing the strength of the unions, and they then return the favor by pumping some of the capital back into Democratic coffers. Meanwhile, the right wing, the private enterprise wing of the goose, is atrophying from starvation. It isn’t getting any of the capital. Indeed, increased taxes are sucking capital out of the right wing, which progressively weakens. You hear liberals refer to themselves as “progressive” all the time, don’t you? It comes from their progressive destruction of private enterprise.
But liberals appear to be strangely schizophrenic. After systematically diverting the food supply of the goose that lays the golden eggs to nonproductive purposes, they expect the goose to continue to lay more and more golden eggs! Their tax base dries up and they blame George W. Bush or Ronald Reagan or anybody else but themselves, when the problem should be obvious to any rational person.
Hmmm…any rational person! That’s the key, of course, to recognize that the liberal may be very intelligent, but he is irrational and thus his intelligence leads him into wishful thinking. If he just keeps taxing the private enterprise system and then injecting political steroids into the left wing, the goose will produce golden eggs, he thinks. If you can call that thinking, which I don’t. It’s just Fantasy Island, political style.
I understand that, at some high-tech university engineering school, some bright young people have designed a drone aircraft which can fly on only one wing. It behaves something like a maple seed, whirling madly. Our private enterprise goose, with its one wing shriveled away, might benefit from such technology, but it would probably just flap madly in circles and get nowhere. Which is, I guess, what’s happening now. No significant economic growth, no improvement in unemployment, more and more capital-food sucked out of the private enterprise food trough.
Can we save the goose? Time’s running out. November 2010 may be the last shot. Don’t forget to vote.
