Get a Dog!

Greg Revell, of Utah, was a bad-weather/no-flight casualty when he got stranded in a New Jersey airport and ended up spending 10-days in jail. Be-cause… he had an unloaded firearm (legally licensed in Utah) that had been legally checked with his luggage in Salt Lake City. Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police arrested him for “illegal possession of a firearmâ€, and his gun and ammunition weren’t returned to him for more than 3 years. If he had landed where he was supposed to, in Allentown, PA., he would have been fine. Now, just think about the hazard for someone driving across country who wants to feel they can protect themselves and their property by carrying a firearm. Their gun, though legal in their state of residence, becomes illegal when they cross certain state lines. They don’t have to touch the weapon, or even have it in sight. All they have to do is have it with them.
I know there are people out there like the Arizona mental case, but honestly… does anyone really believe that the mentally ill and criminals care about gun laws? And does anyone really believe that getting rid of guns equals getting rid of murder and mayhem? I’ve said it before: every time something bad happens, we hear, “We don’t want this to happen to anyone else.†No one does… if they’re sane and rational, and that describes the majority of people, including legal gun owners. We’re not all holed up in a room somewhere planning to go to
a public gathering, to hurt or kill someone. That’s what crazy people do. We’re not wandering the streets looking for an opportunity to take away someone’s possessions, freedom or life. That’s what criminals do.
Unfortunately, living in a free society such as ours, with God-given rights such as we’re afforded by our one-of-a-kind Constitution, that’s the chance we take. The chance that some mentally deranged person, or sociopath, will go over the edge, and innocents may get caught in the cross-fire. Maybe that’s okay with you, because you don’t like guns. That puts you in with the many willing to ignore our Constitution… willing to steal away others rights… willing to give away their own rights, whether it’s Free Speech or gun ownership. Willing to trade it all for a false sense of security. I say “a false sense of securityâ€, because when it comes to your safety, legally? You’re on your own, baby. Don’t believe me? Check this out: In June, 2005 the Supreme Court ruled that the police do not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm. So, to those of you so anxious to get rid of legally owned guns, better get a big, bad dog… and hope the big, bad man threatening your body and/or home doesn’t have a juicy t-bone for the dog, and a bullet for you.
