Is This Parental Failure, Police Failure, Societal Failure or Just Thugs?
By: Michael John McCrae
According to Attorney General Eric Holder “we are a nation of cowards†when it comes to matters of race. He would not pursue the New Black Panthers for intimidation of voters nor has he weighed in on any of the Black on White violence we have been witnessing lately on American streets. He is also incredibly quiet about Louis Farrakhan’s recent comments about how the white man is making the half-white president create programs detrimental to the black population of America in general. His decision to avoid defending former President Clinton’s “Defense of Marriage Act†is having a major impact on society as well. President Barack Hussein Obama pretty much lets the nation’s chief law enforcement officer only enforce laws that allow illegal aliens to attain driver’s licenses and Democrat voter registrations while attacking state laws designed to curb illegal border jumping and punish alien criminals.
But all that aside…
We have to ask if all this presidential complacency is really the cause of the sudden influx of street gang violence and theft we have been reading about. Why are gangs of black street thugs wandering around beating up white people and attacking local businesses? What has given these groups of black teenagers the belief they have become immune from lawful prosecution for their crimes?
The first article I’d like to address is entitled: “Teenage gang charged under lynching law after ‘savage attack on 18-year-old student’ by Fiona Roberts, dated 26 June 2011. The article was posted with before/after pictures of the “student†who was attacked. I will not reprise those here.
The report begins: “Four members of a teenage gang have been charged under a state’s lynching law after allegedly beating an 18-year-old student so badly he required facial reconstruction surgery. The eight members of the gang, the youngest of whom is just 13, allegedly set upon Carter Strange in a parking lot as he jogged back to his home in Columbia, [South Carolina].
The actual breakdown of the “gang†included one 19-year-old, four 16-year-olds, and one teen each 13, 14, and 15-years-old. That is seven times parental failure. The assault happened after midnight. If the parents of the children under the age of 18 had been caring enough to bring their children home after the streetlights went on, the seven juveniles might not be facing charges of “second degree assault†and “criminal conspiracyâ€.
But there is a police failure here too. From the article: “The gang had allegedly been roaming around the area for most of the evening, and police said they had already tried – and failed – to rob four other people.†Which means four other people had reported this gang activity prior to the assault on Carter Strange. If the police had responded or had simply increased their patrol of the area the gang might have had second thoughts about attacking and robbing Mr. Strange.
The “societal†failure can be seen in this statement from the report: “Police Chief Randy Scott said: ‘This teenager was minding his own business, trying to make his curfew when he was brutally attacked and robbedâ€; leaving us all to wonder about President Obama’s speech in Tucson, Arizona and society’s need for “civilityâ€. Of course, these eight teenagers probably didn’t receive that White House memo.
A second article was on the “Delaware Valley Times†website by Linda Reilly entitled: “Suspected flash mob rips off Upper Darby Sears†which begins: “A mob of about 40 people stormed into the Sears department store on 69th Street Thursday, and in a flash stole thousands of dollars worth of merchandise…â€
Although the police responded quickly to the store attack they were only able to “to round up 15 juveniles and one adult, 19, all from West Philadelphia.†So of the forty who grabbed up merchandise, only sixteen were caught and only one could be charged as an adult. You can decide if this was police failure or success. From the report: ““They came in on the El train and hit Sears…They stole sneakers, socks, watches, whatever they could get their hands on, and left…Imagine the guts of this gang of young hoodlums. One was 11 years old. The others arrested ranged from 12 to 16 years old. They planned this out earlier in the day on a social networking site [Upper Darby] police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.â€
One has to agree with the additional statements from Superintendent Chitwood: “According to Chitwood, the juveniles received citations for retail theft and will answer charges before the county’s juvenile justice system…“The parents should be held accountable,†Chitwood said. “And where were the parents of the 11- and 12-year-olds when their children were riding into 69th street with a mob of teenagers? If I could, I would charge the parents. Certainly, this is unacceptable behavior. It was intentionally planned earlier in the day to gather and go to Upper Darby to rob and pillage. There has got to be consequences…†and I heartily agree. The parents of these children should be held accountable for letting children this young to run unsupervised in Philadelphia streets. If the parents cannot control the children then they should become wards of the state and settled in qualified, two-parent foster homes.
The societal failure here is a lack of moral supervision. The forty or so individuals who participated in this crime have no background in any of the Ten Commandments largely recognized by civil people; especially the commandment reading “Thou Shalt Not Steal!†Everyone in this gang is fortunate that SEARS store wasn’t in Mecca or there would be a lot of hand chopping going on about now!
South Carolina and Pennsylvania aren’t the only states dealing with gangs and “flash mobsâ€. Here is a short blurb from CBS Chicago: “The teenage robbery mobs are at it again on North Michigan Avenue…Some 50 young people barged into a Walgreens at Michigan and Chicago on the Magnificent Mile on Tuesday afternoon. They took bottled drinks and sandwiches off the shelves, then ran off, CBS 2′s Suzanne Le Mignot reports.â€
Key word in that report is “againâ€. Chicago seems flush with flash mobs of hungry souls looking for sandwiches and drinks they don’t believe they have to pay for. Didn’t President Obama’s close buddy Rahm Emmanuel just get elected mayor of that city? The mobs probably can feel the added entitlements by theft justifiable. “Homey won’t prosecute!â€
A “Google†of “Chicago Flash Mobs†brought over 200,000 hits. It may be time to offer the public “Conceal-Carry†laws as a choice of protection. Pepper spray can only cause so much damage. If the gang, “mob†is more than five or six individuals then self protective measures that don’t involve shooting someone in the foot or kneecap might just upset the “mob†enough to resort to beatings and killings worse than those mentioned in the 200,000 articles referenced by “Googleâ€.
Liberals like to play the “blame gameâ€. It is largely the fault of liberal policies and programs that we are having difficulties with American children. God was stripped from the public schools decades ago, long before anyone coined the term “flash mobâ€. We are talking children of broken homes here. We are talking children largely unsupervised and uneducated. They have been left without a male or female role model that would speak of family values, reference the goodness of God and the value of morals. It is a parental failure brought on by expanded reliance on government to be the family breadwinner. The 2010 census says that single parent homes now greatly outnumber two-parent families in the black community. The vast bulk of single parent homes live at or below the level identified as “povertyâ€. So without adequate parental supervision and almost no personal discipline, children of single parent homes are forced to find ways to provide for themselves at ages as young as seven years old. Families do not take care of their own members anymore. All such responsibility has been abdicated to government and government is completely inadequate to the task of being mother or father to the millions of children missing a father or a mother or having neither. Food stamps, welfare, social security, Medicare and Medicaid are not replacements for two parent families, churches and pastors and schools that actually teach a child how to read, write, work mathematical solutions, think scientifically and find their firm cultural background in American History!
One quote from that same census article entitled: “Census shows whites lose US majority among babies†(from myway.com) “”We’re moving toward an acknowledgment that we’re living in a different world than the 1950s, where married or two-parent heterosexual couples are now no longer the norm for a lot of kids, especially kids of color,” said Laura Speer, coordinator of the Kids Count project for the Baltimore-based Annie E. Casey Foundation.â€
If the only thing done in America was to return to “married or two-parent heterosexual couples†that would be the beginning of a cultural healing. It has been proven that single parent families cannot compete economically or educationally. Same-sex couples cannot reproduce without going through unnatural gyrations to get a child and there are so few homosexual “family†units that are productive to any part of society that it would take decades to sort out the quirks that might actually be beneficial.
Then, if you want to heal everything else; you might consider getting back to God.
