IRS & White House

By: Mark Hyman

In his four years as IRS Commissioner for George Bush, Mark Everson visited the White House just one time.

His successor, Doug Shulman was cleared to visit the Obama White House 157 times. No cabinet officer – including Defense and Homeland Secretaries or the Secretary of State even when the US was at war in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya – ever visited the Obama White House as many times.

It gets worse.  Sarah Hall Ingram, the woman who ran the IRS office that targeted hundreds of conservative and Jewish groups, visited the Obama White House 165 times just the past two years.  322 White House visits compared to just one under Bush.

Stephanie Cutter has admitted she met with Shulman in the White House on numerous occasions.  The problem is Cutter was the Obama reelection deputy campaign manager.  Why was the IRS commissioner meeting with Cutter [who was the number 2 person in the Obama reelection campaign]?  And why was a campaign official holding meetings in the White House?

More than 100 people in the IRS and the Obama Administration [here, here, here, here, here] have been implicated in the IRS scandal targeting critics, watch dogs and Jewish groups over their speech rights [here, here].

[Among the hundreds of targeted groups include those that believe in Constitutional principles, limited government, or call themselves “patriots,”  or "Tea Party"€ members.]

There is little doubt the Obama Administration was using the IRS to silence critics and watch dogs.  What we don’t yet know is how high does this go?  And who in the White House was calling the shots?06/20/13 IRS & White House
