We call ourselves caring, empathetic, and compassionate. We cry out against killing whales. We silently “support” PETA’s destruction of personal property as they protest killing animals for their fur. We get all worked up over whether the way we slaughter beef or poultry is humane. We demand government hearings to determine who is responsible for abusing enemy prisoners.

Wow! We really are caring, empathetic, and compassionate, aren’t we? Oh, yes! At least, until it comes to our unborn. Suddenly, pardon the pun, that’s a horse of a different color. We don’t want whales, chincillas, birds, cows, chickens, frogs, rabbits. fish or any other living thing injured, mutilated or killed – especially in what would be called a barbaric and/or cruel way. But when it comes to our babies … well, that’s different.
If it’s a baby, and “it” will interfere with school, work or other responsibilities, terminate it-75%. If it’s a baby and I can’t afford it, terminate “it”– 66%. If it’s a baby and I’m having relationship problems or I don’t want to be a single parent, terminate “it” – 50%. I guess those are supposed to be good, solid reasons for ending a life?

But, hey! How can it be wrong when even a man who purports to be a “man of faith”, the man who wants to be our next president (John Kerry), says abortion’s okay. He says he believes life begins at conception, but it’s still okay to abort “it”. After all, that’s the law of the land. After all, it’s a woman’s body and she has the right to decide what she does with it. (Gee, too bad she didn’t realize that before she did with her body, the act that caused her to become pregnant in the first place. )

Have you noticed that in addition to being so caring, empathetic and compassionate, we are just too terribly clever? We figured out that if we call “it” a “mass of tissue”, a fetus, an embryo … anything but “a baby”, it just makes it that much easier. I mean, God forbid we should feel shame or guilt about something, much less something that “unimportant”.

How nice for us. How lethal for the baby.

How caring, empathetic and compassionate we are.

You know, I really don’t care that the law of the land says abortion is okay. It’s not okay. It’s wrong.
And I don’t care that “they” call it “abortion”. It is what it is: murder.

And I don’t care how long and how loud ”they” argue in favor of a method so over-the-top that animal lovers would be protesting if it were used on the beasts they care so much about: partial-birth abortion. It’s still horrific and unspeakably barbaric.

Oh, yes … caring, empathetic and compassionate. That’s us, alright. Try telling that to the 39+ million babies who have been murdered in the past thrty-years.
