Rewriting “Full Faith and Credit” by Jeff Jackson (06/14/04)

Liberals and social engineers are in a bind.  They are promoting gay marriage and they are promoting the concept that gay unions (which they call “marriage”) in one state such as Massachusetts must be held as viable in in all other states because of the “full faith and credit” clause of the United States Constitution.

Article. IV of the Constitution sates “Section. 1. Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State  And the Congress may by general Laws prescribe the Manner in which such Acts, Records and Proceedings shall be proved, and the Effect thereof.  Section 2.  The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.”

What this essentially says is that “full faith and credit” must be given as prescribed by Congress and that citizens of the United States regardless of the states where they live have the same rights as all United States (“the several States”) Citizens.

What the liberals and social engineers however desire it to say is that instead citizens of each state are entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in “each of the States.”  The difference is startling.

But this is not the bind.  The bind is what such an interpretation and rewriting of this article means for gun owners with concealed carry permits; a nemesis of the left wing.  Ignoring the FACT that the second amendment guarantees the right of citizens (not convicted of a crime per the 13th Amendment) to keep and bear arms we see that such an interpretation of the article means that if I have a CCW permit in Pennsylvania, ALL other states of the union MUST respect that permit.

Hey, now THAT is a bind for the left wing.  Uh-oh.  That cannot be good.

I can see it now.  Millions of gun owners flocking to Pennsylvania getting CCW permits and then returning home with guns on their hip and the left wing wetting their diapers no longer feeling secure that the next person they meet is unarmed.  Remember again that we are ignoring the second amendment and pretending that it does not give an absolute right to keep and bear arms which makes any state that prevents concealed carry or even for that matter open carry of firearms in violation of our actual "rights".

Hmmmm.  Rewriting the Constitution to suit the purpose of liberals to turn around and stick it to them in terms of gun control.  Tempting, but no thanks.  No thanks because while they have to rewrite the Constitution to get their way, we have it already written to suit our goals of being allowed to keep and bear arms.  The only thing standing in the way of this of course are liberal legislatures and judiciaries without regard for the Constitution.  Now, we are no longer pretending that the second amendment doesn't exist.

We already have the Constitution written to suit our desires, but we do not have the federal and many state governments following the law of the land.  Another topic for another day.

But I wonder if the left wing has thought this through?  I believe the answer is of course that they have not.  They just want to get something they desire (gay unions) and then will attempt to rationalize not applying the same logic to something they do not desire (nation wide right to carry).  Which is why we should not be tempted to support their asinine plans no matter how tempting because the opposition is not honorable in their dealings.

Full Faith and Credit is clearly spelled out in the Constitution.  The problem is that most people have never read the document.  And even many of those that have either simply do not understand it or choose to ignore it.

Marriage and certainly not “Gay Marriage” (which does not exist anyway) is not a “right or privilege” of the people of the several states.  It is a privilege of one's religion as previously discussed here (see: You Don't Have A Right to Marry).  So there is no claim to extend the full faith and credit clause to include marriage.  No matter how tempting it may be in order to stick it to the left.
