Where Are the Human Shields? By Jeffrey J. Jackson (01/28/05)

Books of Interest

Running up to the invasion of the terrorist state of Iraq, the latte sipping peace weenies from Seattle were falling over themselves to hop in a VW bus painted with bright flowers and with make shift pontoons lashed to the sides so that they could drive to Iraq to protect the innocent civilians from the viciousness of the imperialist American military machine.  They wanted to chain themselves to schools and mosques because they claimed that the storm troopers of America were going to target those sites and civilians as part of their campaign to oust the “legitimate” President Saddam Hussein.  In reality we know that they wanted to chain themselves to schools and mosques specifically because they knew these were the safest places in the country from the American attack.  And like all good little “peace” activists they tend to cower away from where they will be in actual harm and prefer the photo opportunity of them in front of a school that was never a target to begin with.  Basically it made them “feel” better.

Before and during the assault and as the reluctant supporters of Saddam collapsed like a house of cards the human shields did not care to strap themselves to prisons housing Iraqi dissidents.  They didn’t rush to stop Saddam from running his political enemies through plastic shredders or filling mass graves with their bodies or other such brutalities.  In essence, they sided with oppressive dictators by standing up to the liberating forces of the United States and our allies and not standing up to the dictatorial forces of Saddam.

And now as elections loom we see that the “human shields” are supporting the dictatorial fascists again.  They are supporting them by their absence and their silence just as they were silent before America and her allies chose to act.

As the remnants of the Ba’athist party and foreign terrorists roam the Sunni Triangle blowing up polling places, killing election workers and threatening to make the roads red with blood of innocent civilians there aren’t any of these self righteous, Birkenstock wearing “human shield” peace-nicks to be found in Iraq.  They seem to have vanished.  They aren’t rushing out to strap themselves to the gates of polling places and schools and other such buildings to protect the Iraqi people from a real threat because to do so would put them in harms way.  And being in harms way is not somewhere that they want to be.  They want to be strapped to a building somewhere where there is no chance of being turned into fertilizer.  You know, like the Starbucks in downtown Seattle.

Despite their skewed world view even they are smart enough to know that if they tried to “shield” anyone in Iraq they would just be seen as juicy targets by an enemy that they know would kill them the first chance they got.

For all their talk; for all their cries; for all their denouncements of violence they don’t have the courage to put their money where their mouths are.  They don’t have the courage to put their bodies before an enemy force that they know would see them as simply as pigs waiting to be slaughtered.  Ghandi, they are not.  Ghandi at least had the courage to preach for peace with a gun to his head.  But our modern day peace weenies would rather simply continue to select their protests against violence and  limit them to those that don’t put their own lives in jeopardy.

So where are the human shields now?  The answer is they are back in Seattle, sipping a latte bemoaning the evils of the American imperialist machine that has given millions of men AND women the right to determine their own future without the threat of being hauled off by a tyrant.  They are cowering back in their safe homes far away from the conflict turning their backs on the people they once thought to save now that they are being attacked by terrorists hell bent on regaining their fascist state and their power.  They are, in silence, supporting the terrorists by refusing to stand up against the killing of innocent civilians that they claim was so evil not all that long ago.

When they were claiming America was going to kill civilians it did not happen except by tragic accident.  Now that civilians are being targeted on purpose by their fellow travelers the colorfully painted VW bus is no where to be found.
