When John Kerry spoke to the American Legion convention, he said something very interesting - “Just saying the job is done, doesn’t make it so.” You can say that another way and it’s just as relevant – “Just saying it doesn’t make it so.”

A case in point would be John Kerry’s disagreement with the Swift Boat Veteran’s. What interests me most about the subject is the inherent hypocrisy in the Kerry camp’s accusing rebuttals.

They have accused George Bush, his campaign, and everyone who has ever known him, of being behind, and funding the ads. This is what I know about it. Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is a 527 organization whose stated purpose is to question Kerry’s Vietnam record and denounce his anti-war activities after the war. The group has eleven (11) donors: 1 gave $100,000, 2 gave $25,000 each, 3 gave $2,000 each, 1 gave $1,000, 3 gave $500 each and 1 gave $250.00. That’s a total of $158,750.00.

In contrast, let’s look at a couple of other 527 groups. America Coming Together. Their donors and pledge amounts? Peter Lewis (chairman, Progressive Corp.), $10 million; George Soros (financier), $10 million; Sierra Club (no information on amount), and $8 million from various labor groups. Another 527 is America Votes. They coordinate the activities of 20 + Democratic interest groups, including the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, SEIU; EMILY’S List, NARAL Pro-Choice America, Planned Parenthood; NAACP, People for the American Way and the MoveOn.org Voter Fund. These affiliated organizations contributed $50,000 apiece. The total raised by these two groups as of Jan., 2004: $32.5 million. The stated purpose of both organizations is defeating George Bush.

For some reason John Kerry, and other Democrats, aren’t bothered by the ads some of those groups have aired even when they’ve compared President Bush to Hitler. They haven’t had a problem when the President has been called stupid, a liar and deserter, among other things. But they sure have gotten upset over those Swift Boat ads – ads by veterans, just like Kerry; vets who served and were wounded, just like Kerry. But, unlike Kerry, they’re supposed to shut up about their experiences and go away. If they won’t shut up voluntarily, then Kerry and his people will do everything they can think of to shut them up. They’ll try to stop their story being told in a book by trying to get the publisher and bookstores to “shut-up” or they’ll threaten stations who run the ads.
Geez, and here I believed them (the Democrats) when they pounded their chests and called themselves the protectors of our civil and constitutional rights!
Like I said, “Just saying it doesn’t make it so!”
