The battle is over and as the weary foot soldiers of the right leave the field of battle and return to their regular lives they do so under the claims of a victory.  Rest from the rigors of the past few months is seen as a welcome reward to many after arguing passionately with the opposition and hitting the streets in a war for America’s future.  But there can be no rest for patriots.  There can be no rest because the not-so-loyal opposition while quieter than in recent memory are not defeated.  Do not mistake the silence of a bruised and battered enemy licking its wounds in retreat for a defeated enemy.  The enemy is reeling and stunned, but they are most certainly not defeated.

Some will cringe at the thought of calling the opposition the enemy.  The opposition is the enemy because they believe in things that are distinctly against America ideas.  They believe in big and intrusive government.  They believe in punishment of that have succeeded through higher tax rates.  They believe in allowing the less successful the means of voting themselves money they did not earn through government.  They believe that it is ok to punish an unborn child with death for no crime other than an inconvenience to the mother.  All of those things are against American ideas.  And that is just the tip of the proverbial ice berg.

Make no mistake it is a proper label and note that I do not apply this label to all the voted to send America down the path to socialist ruin because there are two distinct camps within the opposition.  There are those that are the true believers in the social principles of big government and Karl Marx and the punishment of success.  Then there are those that fall prey to the continuous drum beat of the call to battle against the principle of all men created equal and limited government and those that fear losing what they were never to have had in the first place from entitlement programs.  There is a difference between the generals, attempting to direct the minions from their ivory towers protected by their “intellect” and the fodder that they send out to do their bidding.

The foot soldiers of the enemy can be won over.  The elites who perpetrate the ignorance and the coercion however cannot.  The voices are not as loud because the most of the half-hearted followers thrown against us have retreated to the shadows and now only the generals and officers cry out about the injustices of America and hurl taunts and slanders.

And make no mistake, the elites who are the enemy will again rally an army to confront us in the future.

No, those that have fallen silent are not those that we need concern ourselves about because they can be swayed with the light of truth.  But the “enemy” among their  ranks, the leadership that enslaves them, lays licking their wounds after failing to promote limited freedom and increased government control and that have a seething hatred for the words of our founding documents and the unalienable rights granted to all men.  The campaign may be over, but the enemy is still real.  And now is not the time for patriots to close their eyes and rest.

Now is the time to press the attack against those that would rather see the United States adopt the politics of the limited freedom than uphold the wisdom of our founding fathers who wrote the words “We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”  I know my friends that you do not want to hear this.  I know that you do not want to hear me call you from your desired slumber which you believe is a reward for a job well done.  But you must hear me when I say you cannot close your eyes and you cannot rest now.  The best time to finish off the enemy is when they are weakened, not after they have had a chance to regroup and bolster their ranks and press the attack again.

Now is not the time for rest.  America is not safe.  American traditions are not secure.  We have won three consecutive major battles against the enemy but we have not even come close to winning the civil war that divides this country.

That civil war that we find ourselves entrenched in fighting is not a battle with guns and bullets although it could escalate to that if our vigilance fades.  The division in America is real and it is a division that has destroyed weaker nations.  This civil war is a war of ideas.  It is truly a civil war; for now.  And we are winning.  But we have not won.  Just like the War on Terror, we are winning but the war is far from over and the light at the end of the tunnel is not yet in sight.  We have decades of failed policies and un-American laws to overturn.  And that battle will not be won in a single election.

And if we do not continue to press the attack against the enemy, no matter how tired our eyes or our minds or our hearts, the enemy will pounce and they will strike a deadly blow against all that we have achieved.  Those that wish to remake America from what it was and still mostly is are only battered and bruised.  But their ideas and their desires are not dead and these ideas are seductive to the lazy and the misinformed.  They have not driven them from this country or our politics.  And like a wounded animal caught in a trap, the enemy are more dangerous than ever because their backs are against the wall.

As they lick their wounds they will plot and plan and adjust their assault on American values for the next battle.  And they will, like a wounded animal, strike harder the next time they are confronted and backed further into the corner.  Because the pain of defeat is not pleasant.

Patriots who love this country cannot rest.  No matter how tired they may be.  We have emerged from the twilight of autumn and are now entering the coming winter.  And as we enter the darkness, winter soldiers have arisen to take up the banner of liberty and they possess a great devotion to the cause of freedom.  But the winter in which we fight is only going to become colder and more harsh.  The winter is just beginning.  And as the winter becomes more harsh there will be those among the foot soldiers that will fall by the way side.  There will be those whose great devotion to the cause of liberty will fade in the winter’s night.  There will be those that will say this battle is no longer for them; that it is too difficult and that the winter is too cold and that the ideas of the enemy are not so bad.

We cannot give up.  Our vigilance and our love of liberty are a fire within us that will keep us warm in the winter of our battle.  And as we stoke that fire within ourselves and all Americans it will keep us going.  It will be our warmth and our light in the dark times to come in this civil war that will either save America or cause the idea of freedom to be discarded into the ash heap of history.  And this fire will lead us to the dawn of springtime and a new age where liberty is once again the king of the American soul.

Patriots I beg you not to close your eyes.  I beg you to carry on until your dying breath.  And I beg that you hold the banner of liberty high in all that you do.  Winter is coming, but only with a fire and a passion for liberty can we escape into a new dawn.
