You vote your conscience and I will vote mine by Carolyn Hileman  (9/16/04)

I see homes with swing sets in their yards and I wonder if they know that voting in this election is more important than any other gift they could give that child. I wonder if they know the important differences in the two candidates. I wonder if they know that their most important decision is not what to get them for Christmas but who is more capable of protecting them. I hear them talk about the economy like is the sole priority of everyone; I do not have the heart to tell them that if the terrorist succeed there will not be an economy to worry about. You want to tell me about job loss, tell me just how many jobs do you think will be lost if the terrorist strike again? If they get what they want, women will not be able to leave their homes much less work.

You want to tell me about peace, what peace, the kind we had before 9/11. The kind of peace that turned its head as long as it didn’t hit home, as long as we did not have to watch people jumping from burning buildings? Your kind of peace cost us dearly and I do not want your kind of peace. I do not care what the rest of the world calls us if my children are safe. I heard someone say that they only hit big cities so why should they care. You will never know how much I wanted to hurt that person, how on earth could they make that kind of statement? No planes did not hit us, but we were hit with the recession that followed. We had to explain it to our children, we had to comprehend it our selves. Considering they hit a school in Russia I do not suppose it has occurred to anyone that they might try that here and there best bet would be in the small communities where everyone thinks they are safe. Who would be watching, we are safe aren’t we, we are a small town they will not hit in a small town, or would they?

Yes, I am aware they were Russian terrorists, but a terrorist is a terrorist I do not care where they live, they are murderers and should never be ignored. They got what they wanted, media coverage, parents screaming and crying, and world leaders discussing it. So you go on a tell me it will not happen again and that they will not try it here. They now know the one thing that can bring the world to its knees and to think that they will not use it is ludicrous. Go ahead tell me our schools are safe, I dare you tell me they couldn’t do it here, then tell me how two young men could hold a whole school hostage and kill other students and teachers and then tell me that the terrorist couldn’t do it.

Wake up America, they do not play by our rules, they do not care if they are children, they do not care if you are conservative or liberal all they care about is blood our blood. Just imagine sending your child off to school only to get a call that the school has been taken hostage. You do not negotiate with those people because you have nothing they want and they have everything you need. Just like those kids in Columbine, they needed nothing that anyone outside could give them. They wanted to kill those people, they planned it, they dreamed about it and no one stood in their way to stop it. To me it is all just common sense, you put in protection for those children before you put in another football field, you drill those children on how to escape in case of a terrorist attack or a child with a gun before you build one more building.

You do not contract out to people you do not know, keep that money at home and watch to make sure that you know who is going into our schools.  I do not care how much you can save if you contract school construction in Tin buck too, there is only one thing you need to be concerned about saving and that is my children. You get police protection at the football and other games any place there will be a large gathering. In addition, you vote for someone who believes that safety is more important than anything else is. Because if we do not protect ourselves, the economy, our way of life is a mute point, if they destroy our future, and our children are our future then what do we have left. You vote your conscience and I will vote mine.
