Once again we see that people choose not to learn the lessons of the past. Today, as terrorists with no concern for the lives of anyone continue to step up attacks on the U.S. and her allies in Iraq, some are growing weary of a fight hardly begun. Amid reports that countries such as Japan, South Korea, Spain, and others are either pulling out staff, cutting back on planned troop deployments, and wagging their fingers for a change of strategy, the terrorists are being shown once again that if you blow yourself up and cause a lot of damage, you too can be a powerful force.

We see resolve weakening in some allies. We see that they have not yet learned, nor do they understand what happens when you allow terrorists who target citizen and other non-military personnel to make their strategy into a bargaining chip at the table. For certain they are scared and they worry about the safety of their people. No sane leader wants to put their own citizens in harms way. However to begin to fall back now leads us down a path that we have already traveled. It is a path that leads to the terrorists becoming emboldened because they see their strategy of causing as much mayhem as possible in fact works. It is a path that leads to future insecurity for all countries involved.

That is a path that we have already traveled. It is a path that most recently lead to 9/11; a viscous assault upon American soil. It is the same path that lead to the start of W.W.II as cowardly leaders allowed Hitler to amass power while terrorizing his own people and his neighbors.

We can not follow this path again. We can not because the second that the terrorists learn that killing a few civilians and blowing up a building gets you a seat at the bargaining table there will be buildings being blown up and civilians being killed in the streets of any country that shows such and becomes weak in the face of their presence.

Killing a couple civilians and blowing up buildings is to easy to allow terrorists to use this as a bargaining tool. One or two men could do such acts and we watched at the ease at which it was done on 9/11/01. And to fold to the terrorists who's only desire is their own power will see these events repeated here and in other countries that now wilt when confronted with the task at hand.

It is far harder to build a nation than many people think. It took years after W.W.II to get Japan back on its feet. How soon we forget. Now in Iraq we are trying to hand off control in less than a year. We are attempting to do this while terrorists who's only aim is to oppress the people of Iraq by returning to power blow up oil pipelines, hinder electricity and kill their own people. We are attempting to do this in the face of foreign terrorists converging on Iraq and interfering with the indigenous people there to rule themselves.

War is never easy and complete victory is never swift. It does not matter what the perception of the might of the U.S. military is compared to others. What matters is seeing this through to the end. Because if we do not, Spain, Japan, Korea, and all the rest of you, it will not be long before your people are killed in your streets and your buildings turned to rubble. It will happen because you showed weakness and an unwillingness to stare down evil, confront it, and kill it.

And when your towers fall and your people die there will be no one to blame but you.
