The Land of the Free - A Conservative Politics Web Site

Early in the morning President Bush's phone rang with good news.  Meanwhile around the country the phones of John Kerry, Howard Dean, Wesley Clark, Al Gore, and all the other major players in the Democratic Party rang with bad news.

Sure it was the same news; we got him, Saddam is in our custody, but it was a stinging blow to those that have made a habit of criticizing the President's military strategy in Iraq calling it flawed and questioning why we did not yet have the brutal dictator of Baghdad in our hands.  Now they loose one more song to trumpet, but they will continue on decrying the war regardless.

And it all was done without the help of the European Socialists in France and Germany or even Russia.  A sad day for them as well for they sat on the sidelines and were forced to watch as America and her allies (some 60 nations) removed Saddam as a threat to his people.  They were forced to watch as America and her allies showed that they didn't not need them or their hand wringing in order to accomplish freedom for Iraq.

For the rest of the free world the news was good.  Saddam Hussein is no longer on the run and disheveled and weary gave up without a fight in a pathetic display.  It was hardly the sight one would have expected from a man that when he had the backing of fear was brutal towards his people.  But what it showed was that with all the might Saddam once had, he had no real power.  All he had was fear.  And with only fear being used to control people we see again how such power turns out in the long run.  Saddam, once the ruler of an oil rich nation, now crawls out of a hole dirty, smelly and haggard.  He crawled out without honor.

Such is the fate of all that rule by fear.

And now, as the dust from his capture settles the people of Iraq have once less monster to fear.  Soon he will be tried and punished for his crimes.  And God willing it will be by the people of Iraq.  A fitting end to a reign of brutality not seen since Hilter or Stalin.

Now Iraq can move on and further down the path to independence and representative government.  Now Iraqis can breathe a sigh of relief that the figure head of the brutal dictatorship that once controlled their lives will not come back to harm them again.  That was the next major step and it has now been taken.

One down; one to go.  Bin Laden is next.
