The Land of the Free - A Conservative Politics Web Site

Thanks greatly to the benefit of a mostly free market and the liberties we practice under our Republic the United States has become the model of the civilized world.  Per capita we have the highest standard of living of any nation from our poor all the way up to our rich.  Per capita we have the largest amount of land ownership for any country.  We have the highest rate of disposable income of any nation.  We have the largest budget for national defense of any country around the world.  We have an economy that grows at a rate faster than that of any other nation each and every year.  And on top of all that, we find enough time to donate our time, blood and treasure to help out many other nations around the globe each and every year.

While some countries are mired in the ways of the past, the United States continues to roll forward and continues to be one of the leaders in technology and innovation each year.  As we better our selves as a nation we find that our populace also, as a whole becomes better and more highly trained and educated.  What a wonderful thing.

That others envy our success is a given.  Tin horned despots and yellow bellied dictators cry afoul it seems any time that the United States even so much as dares to breath.  And they go into conniptions if that breath is even anywhere near their throne and their power.  Such are the segment of this world's populous who have either not yet discovered how to tap into the potential of their fellow man or that are too distressed with their own quest for power to even care.

When we see areas of the world that sit upon an almost limitless supply of natural resources such as oil where their citizens are poorer than the poor in America one can only but wonder why.  Here in the United States we have enough wealth to buy that oil from them but still the people there live in poverty.  Does that make any sense?  How is it that the nation that produces the oil is poor and the nation that consumes the oil is rich?  We are giving them a portion of our own wealth and thus, one would think increasing their wealth as well.  But it does not happen.  Where on Earth does that money go?

The despots cry to their people that the United States is stealing their wealth and resources or that somehow we are to blame for not giving them enough of our wealth for their products.  The answers however are simpler than the vast conspiracy these tyrants would portray.  Freedom creates wealth.  Tyranny consumes it.

The nation that is most actively promoting freedom above everything else is the United States.  We are not the only one, but as far as basics go we are the most active.  Although we do have problems with social-creep (i.e. socialist programs slowly destroying this freedom and increasing dependence upon the Federal Government).  But despite this social-creep we still manage to produce more wealth and use that wealth to buy the resources of others who are unwilling, incapable, or not competent to use them themselves.  Mostly this money that we spend on these resources abroad is stalled in the hands of dictators who build themselves lavish palaces and eat caviar while their people live without running water. 

It is ridiculous to even insinuate that the United States "steals" anything.  Correct me if I am wrong, but I have never heard reports of US oil tankers equipped with contingents of American soldiers storming into middle eastern ports under the cover of darkness and by the use of physical force "liberating" oil from the refineries and holding tanks.

The truth is that America constantly breaks all the "rules" created by those who still seek to believe that freedom is not the answer.  And we keep succeeding.  They keep failing.  In the race the United States keeps pulling further and further ahead.  And this is not without its problems.

As the standard of living in America increases because of our prosperity and freedom and our neighbors in the world continue to not promote the best interests of their own citizens, it makes it appealing for U.S. industry to use this source of laborers that expect less compensation than their American brethren.  As the standard of living in the United States continues to rise and the disposable income of its citizens also increases and Americans consume more and more foreign goods, the pockets of the dictators abroad grow deeper.  The tyrants grow bolder.  As American wealth increases and our generosity grows in the form of new "social" programs, foreigners with no intent except to take advantage of our own prosperity come here and leech off the good nature of our citizens.

Our prosperity makes us a target.  Those that are failing to compete with the United States in the race lash out against us as the only way that they see to catch up.  The lash out physically and violently in an attempt to slow the United States down.  They lash out behind the guise of the United Nations.  They cannot give up their power and promote the freedom of their people and they dare not admit their own failures.  The result is that countries cry foul when the United States does anything to protect her own interest and allies.  The result is that nations ruled by tyrants are taught to hate the wealthiest nation on this planet.  The result is that most of the world would like nothing more than to do us economic, political and even physical harm in order to bring us down to their level rather than embracing freedom and coming up to our's.  They see forcing Lady Liberty to stumble and fall as the only way to catch up.

Witnessing the amount of wealth the United States has created in a short two and a quarter centuries one could only imagine the state of the world today if other nations of this planet were to also shed the antiquated shackles of limited freedom, selective rights, and government control that hinder them from keeping the pace.  Witnessing the prosperity of freedom that one nation has achieved, one can only weep at the thought that the reason we have not accomplished this as a people a thousand times over is that some men are more enthralled with power than with the unalienable rights of the people that they serve.

And so we, the People of the United States of America, continue to out race the rest of the nations of this world more enamored with the hindrance of personal freedoms and with socialist and communistic principles that have failed every time they have been tried and have resulted in more death and destruction in the name of power than one would care to count.  And despite our best efforts and giving of our own wealth to these people and nations they continue to fall further and further behind while their leaders amass personal fortunes and more importantly to themselves, power.

These tyrants are the real cause of suffering in this world and we as Americans must continue to show the power the freedom gives.  And to those that would seek to do us harm to allow themselves the appearance of "catching-up" we must confront them.  Because causing American to stumble is not allowing them to catch up.  It is dropping America to their level.  And when America is forced to drop to their level the standard of living for the entire world suffers and there is less blood, time and treasure to spend on promoting the unalienable rights of all mankind and less of our fortune to send around the world and better the economic situation of those elsewhere.  And the dictators of the world like it that way because it is one less reminder to their people that freedom works.

What should be our policy then?  Should we lower ourselves to make these tyrants like us and maybe not wish to do us quite as much harm as they otherwise would?  Absolutely not.  There are distinctly American principles that we must always adhere to. 
That "all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights".  And that beyond that "That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed."

To allow ourselves to be lowered to the level of the tin horned despot and to not promote the founding principles of this nations would be un-American.  To promote our country to be subservient to any foreign power that would so wish to infringe upon our founding principles or that we should appease those that would seek to infringe upon the rights of free men would be un-American.

The stance of America and her leaders must be loud, clear and unified.  That we will promote the freedom of all mankind and that no matter how we are attempted to be sabotaged, we will continue to win the race.
