Politicizing the War by Jeff Jackson 11/26/03

Senator Tom Daschle among others have accused President Bush and the Republican Party of politicizing the war with a new add that implies that some people are attacking him for attacking the terrorists and defending America. These are the same people that have been politicizing the war by questioning the route by which the President has taken and the actions he has implemented.

But to them, criticizing the methods of the President is not politicizing the war. But in reality that is exactly what they are doing.

The second they begin criticizing him for purely political gains they politicized the war for their own benefit. People like Senator Daschle and other would be presidential candidates ARE running for political office. They ARE attempting to further their own political careers and become President. They ARE politicizing the war themselves.

But that is ok or at least it is for them. It's always ok for them because they have little if anything else to hang their hat upon to beat George Bush. For President Bush to point out that they are doing this however is a bad, bad thing in their eyes. It's hypocritical, but that is not that unusual.

People like Senator Daschle can do it because they believe they "care". They can do it be cause they believe they have "superior" ethics. They do it because they believe that it is "patriotic" to always question the Commander in Chief when he is of the opposing political party. They can do it because they are "Intellectuals". They can do it because, well, they just can.

But the second anyone uses the same tactics against them they cry foul. It is the last great refuge of those that have no valid argument and the scoundrels of this system. That refuge is to complain and complain without offering any real solutions. To simply decry the current action. All the while they provide nothing in terms of solid fixes, but speak in broad strokes and wide ranging terms that are so hard to pin them down on. And then when it is shown that what they are doing is attacking and politicizing the war they complain that it is the opposition that is exactly the ones doing when they themselves are doing.

It is sad. And worse it shows how shallow people like Senator Daschle really are. If he or any of his comrades can not deal with the reality of politics and instead bemoan those that point out what they themselves are doing, then how can he or his fellow candidates expect to deal with the realities of actually having to run a country like the United States where freedom of speech and dissent like that that they currently practice is the norm? If they can not handle it in the process of running for President then how on Earth are they going to deal with it if by some miracle they actually become President and have to face the criticism of a free nation head on?

Maybe he thinks that at such time he can simply scold the nation for doing the same thing that he does now. After all he is an "enlightened" one. How dare we question him.
