Ms. Condoleezza Rice appeared before the 9/11 commission today laying out the case against Richard Clarke and many of his claims. In fact, simply a reading of the opening statement begs the question to be asked, what questions could have possibly been asked?
She severely destroyed Mr. Clarke's accusations that she knew nothing about the threats of Islamic Terrorists and al-Qiada which was a corner stone of his claims and the best chance political opponents had of discrediting the administration. She cataloged several instances of how exactly they approached the threat and made certain to remind partisans that in fact problems were caused long before President Bush took office by limiting how intelligence agencies could operate.
Former Sen. Bob Kerry and commissioner Richard Ben-Veniste both attempted throw their two cents in however were strongly rebuked by Ms. Rice's steady testimony. In the end it has come down to this. There is nothing to see here. Move along.
