The Future

Monday night was the "future stars" showcase of the Republican Party featuring John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. Only problem is that while both give excellent speeches neither of them truly represents the core of the Republican Party. Both are to the left of President Bush who has seen the problems one has holding on to conservative support when one acts in a non conservative manner.
Can either of them win the nomination in 2008? Can either of them win the White House after that? I sincerely doubt it. I know the Republican Party is trying the "big tent" theory but if this trend continues of selective disregard for conservative principles they will have a hard time maintaining their support for years into the future.
The Republican Party might very well succeed, but they are on the threshold of doing it as a party of moderates where a little bit of socialism is ok. And that is not in line with "republican" principles nor is it in line with the concepts that this nation was founded upon.
