Setting The Record Straight!

One of our members over at Conservababes was in an argument with a friend about who actually gets money from where in elections. Like a typical, uninformed socialist, this person was claiming that it was Republicans who were in bed with the fat cats and big business and that it was Democrats that got contributions from "the little guy".

So I popped over to Opensecrets.org and parsed the numbers. I thought that, as always, the results were interesting so here they are in case you are too lazy to look there yourself.

"The study also found that Republicans raised more than Democrats from individuals who contributed small and medium amounts of money during the 2002 election cycle, but Democrats far outpaced Republicans among deep-pocketed givers.

Republican candidates and parties topped their Democratic counterparts, $68 million to $44 million, in fundraising from individuals who contributed under $1,000 in itemized contributions for the 2002 elections. Among donors giving $1,000 or more, Republicans again beat out Democrats, $317 million to $307 million.

But the trend was reversed among individuals at higher giving levels, from whom Democrats raised far more money than Republicans. Among donors of $10,000 or more, Democrats out-raised Republicans, $140 million to $111 million. Among donors of $100,000 or more, Democrats raised $72 million to the Republicans' $34 million. And among the most generous givers - those contributing $1 million or more - Democrats far outdistanced Republicans, $36 million to just over $3 million." Opensecrets.org

But wait! There's MORE!

Opensecrets.org's Top Individual Donors reveals that the money went as follows:

Democrats:$8,658,377
Republicans:$8,000,221

Opensecrets.org's OVERALL Top Donors breaks down like this:

Democrats:$73,887,736.72
Republicans:$56,988,968.43

And finally opensecrets.org's Donor Demographics shows that of the RICHEST donors ($1,000,000/yr or more) Democrats received 55% of that money.

Ok? Is that enough evidence for you Kool Aid drinkers? Or are you STILL going to keep lying?
