If ever there was a day that lived on in the minds of any American, it was a day when two years ago some of the most common words heard were to the effect of “he was a last seen going back in” as others were coming out. For those words sum up the actions and the beliefs of heroes that we lost on a fateful September morning.

Of our heroes that day some wore uniforms, some wore suits, and others wore jeans and tshirts. But all of them sacrificed their lives in the hope that they might save the life of one more. Should we forget the events of that day, the horror and shock as terrorists in an act of cowardice bought thousands to their death, we would surely forget those heroes.

Those heroes that headed into danger and those that fought with hijackers to spare more innocent lives must never be forgotten. The forces of evil still to this day want us to forget. For for us to forget and not remain strong and resolved against such forces allows the evil to win. And when the evil of September 11th, 2001 wins every last one of those heroes last seen rushing into the mouth of hell or fighting to keep yet another plane from hitting another building are forgotten.

I say that I will never allow those who unselfishly sacrificed in the face of evil to fade quietly into the night and be lost to history. I say that as Americans we should all join in their remembrance as people that truly loved their fellow man, their fellow Americans, enough to risk their own lives and forfeited them without selfishness. For they did so even as many knew they had husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters and dear friends that did not wish to carry on with out them.

Today is an anniversary of heroes. It is an anniversary of men and women who lived and on that day, died true Americans. Their actions saved lives. Their beliefs fueled their desire. Their deeds struck a chord deep within us all.

Our enemies are still alive. They are resourceful. They will continue to strike out. More of our heroes will die. War is hell. But we do not fight for the sake of fighting. We fight for the sake and hope of peace; a peace the evils of the world do not want.

We fight so that evil does not win. For it cannot win.

We can never bring back our heroes that fell on that day. Nor can we bring back those that have fallen since that day or that will fall upon our soil and in foreign lands in the future to hunt down the evil that reared its head on September 11th.

Having to bury a hero is never an easy task. Having to bury an American is harder still. Still even harder is it to bury a son, a mother, or a brother. But sometimes it is a necessity facilitated by the actions of the evil. And as sad as it is, it is better to bury an American hero on American soil than to be conquered and discrace him and bury him as an American villian upon conquered ground.
