We Do Not Fight For... by Jeff Jackson (2/03/03)

We do not fight for the thrill of death, nor the name of our God.  Nor do we fight with the souls of those that do not have the heart for war.  We fight to remain free and sovereign.  We fight with the hearts of those that go freely into harm's way.

Brave men and women, we salute you.  For you fight for many a soul that you have not, nor never will meet.  And you fight for even those those that spit upon your existence and their being.  Even in the face of curse and disdain you march onward; onward to protect those that hate you so.

Our soldiers, you uphold the oath you have freely taken not for ideals forced upon you.

Men and women in uniform, we shall not forget the sacrifices you have and will make.  Even though some of us may not fully appreciate your actions and your call,  none will ever forget lest they choose to on purpose for their own selfish ideals.

You are the heart of this country; the life blood whom without which we would not be.

You fight so that those that have not the stomach for war may continue to live in peace and freedom beneath the blanket you provide.

We pray that no blood be shed this day nor any day from here on.  But that if blood must be shed, be it not but that of those that seek to undermine this great nation.  We salute you for we know that you do not wish to kill or maim.  But you will still do so if you must.  And we will pray for not only the souls of our fallen, but for the fallen of our enemy.  But we will not pray for them at the expense of our own.

We stand on the brink of war, a sobering conflict that is for all who grace this Earth.  We stand at a precipice that words can not solve and that only actions may bridge.  Noble men and women of this country we salute thee.  You are our soul; our strongest arm.  And may our Lord and God watch over and protect you.
