We have not learned. And that is sad. One would think that after the events that transpired prior to W.W.II and during the 80's when the United States brought the former Soviet Union to its knees that we would have.

If Hitler taught us but one thing it was that those who seek to appease and turn a blind eye are often the reason why we must revisit places of trouble around the globe every so many years. For they will never be satisfied at any cost. Prior to W.W.II there were cries from the pacifists that Hitler wouldn't harm anyone or use his weapons. We would have "peace in our time". There were cries that the slaughter of Jews were nothing but a concoction of western minds to hurl us into devastation. Even in the face of the facts they persisted to disagree that there was a threat. And they were wrong.

In the 80's as President Regan moved missiles into Europe to stave off potential Soviet aggression, the cries of the pacifists rained down upon our ears. They said we were provoking and that we were planning to even invade and conquer. They wailed and marched in the streets against us. And again, they were wrong.

For it was not the fault of the US and her allies that we had to enter a bloody war against the National Socialist Party (Nazi's) in Germany. Nor was it the fault of the US and her allies that we had to protect the eastern European boarder against Soviet tanks. No, it was the fault of the pacifists.

For it was the pacifists who allowed Hitler to grow in power by turning a blind eye until Germany was too powerful to do anything else but go to war against them. And it cost us dearly.

For it was the pacifists who allowed the specter of communism to reign supreme and to appease the Soviet Union to the point where tanks and missiles were mere miles away from the free nations of Europe. And thankfully to the bold leadership of one man, that threat was halted before war had to be rained upon Europe a third time. But it was the pacifists who again, nearly cost us dearly.

Now, war with a rogue nation looms. And again, despite the evidence of weapons buildups, slaughtering of his own people, support for terrorists, and flagrant violation of the 1991 ceasefire agreement the pacifists once again cry to not use force and flex the might of free men but instead seek to appease. For we have not learned.

We have not learned that shrinking from evil will never lead to peace but that it will only will lead to tyranny, greater bloodshed, and harder toils to undo the damage that will be done more so than should we face our fears now. "War is hell," General Sherman said. And he is right, war is indeed hell. But hell is also living in fear and doing nothing to right the wrongs which we see portrayed on the world stage this day. And that is a hell that we make for ourselves as the cries and the tears of innocents suffer.

No reasonable man ever wants war. But to say that war is and never should be an option is the desire of a fool. We may not want it, but we must be at all times ready to fight in it. For not to do so would render us conquered by the forces that would seek to control us.
